Lapland trip and what pandemic has done for me
We visited Levi two weeks ago. I haven’t been that north since 2017. There was a lot of snow and sunshine. The views were just awesome, I wish I could visit Lapland more often. I feel privileged to be able to travel these days even in my home country.
During our short trip we went downhill skiing and snowshoeing. We spent the whole day in the slopes. We could even watch the sun rise and set during our day of downhill skiing. It was a lot of fun to try snowshoeing as well. I had some problems while getting up the hill with snowshoes. The views were worth climbing though. Going down with snowshoes was more like sliding down the hill for me. It was fun.
During the trip I had more time to think about things. Before covid my life was not going to the direction I wanted it to. I was working in two jobs, freelancing gigs and my day job as a data developer. At the same time I was still studying, writing my master's thesis and filling my free time with volunteering in church teams, swimming practice, travelling and meeting friends as much as possible. I was not sleeping enough, I was always few minutes late for work and sometimes I didn't have time to meet friends.
When the pandemic hit, I had just come back from roadtrip in the US and went straight to quarantine for two weeks. Suddenly my life looked very different. I went from full calendar to remote work at home and empty calendar outside of work. For months I only met a few close friends and didn't have much activities in my free time. I realized life doesn't have to be a full calendar filled with many things and I didn't want to go back to it.
During this global pandemic I've been able to focus on relationships, exercise consistently, learn how to say no, sleep more, and even change my job. I got the chance to work as an assistant in a TV production last autumn and for the first time in my life, I’m a full time freelancer.
I feel a lot healthier and happier about my current lifestyle.
Visiting Lapland was a great holiday. But I also feel good to be working on things that I enjoy the most. Making videos and taking photos.
Thanks for reading and enjoy your week. ❤️
