3000 km in 10 days

Probably not the best timing to write a post about traveling, when at the moment staying at home is the greatest thing you can do. We were lucky and blessed to be able to travel to North America, California, just before everything paused. Our return flight went through London and we came back home a day before USA closed flight connections there. Also, many cities closed their restaurants and in San Francisco it is prohibited to go outside. Can’t believe how lucky we were to travel and come back home safely before all that.

Two years ago we were joking that we would visit USA in 2020, and last year we found a good offer and booked the tickets. We were a group of five people, so renting a car and having a roadtrip through the west coast and California sounded amazing.

On our first day in San Francisco we got robbed. Our rental car’s window was broken and Ben’s bag was stolen. Just at the right moment, a police officer drove nearby us and helped us. My bag, which had my passport and money inside, was luckily not stolen and Ben lost only his expensive glasses. After talking with police, we even got a better car in return from the rental company. In this situation we were also taken care of better than expected and in the end everything turned out fine.

After San Francisco we traveled to Los Angeles. We visited some smaller towns on the way and drove through the Pacific Highway, where the ocean and mountains fill up the view. From Los Angeles we continued to Grand Canyon in Arizona and from there to Las Vegas in Nevada. All of those cities were different and my personal favorite was San Francisco with all the cute streets and city lights.

During the trip I took a lot of photos and videos. Those two above are taken by my friend Mikko. It’s good to travel when there are other photographers on the group as well and you can understand and inspire each other for stopping to every corner to shoot some frames.

Roadtrips are a lot of fun, and when you go to places with a car instead of public transportation, you are able to explore even more places on the way. Sometimes we just paused somewhere in the middle of our way to adore the scenery. All though it can be though in the long run too. Every day we packed our bags and drove to a new place and ate a lot of fast food on the way. At least, we got to try many American burgers. Our favorite burgers were at American beauty in Los Angeles.

Along with the cities we wandered in nature as well. One evening after raining the fog filled up the sky and the view was just breathtaking. Grand Canyon was even greater than what a photo can tell. It is difficult to describe it in words. It feels like you can not even tell how big it is or how far the other side of the canyon is. I recommend visiting and seeing it by yourself.

You can spot Sotapossu from the photo 😉

We were able to visit many places in 10 days, in total we drove about 3000 kilometers (1860 miles). Thank you friends for this trip. Now it is time to rest at home.

Be safe everyone ❤️
